056 - Holiday Shopping

names not changed because seriously, their website is the worst.  

i sent a couple of emails about how their online shopping experience had seriously turned me off to their company, and the only response denied that their website worked that way, and the gender requirement at the front of the page was only a “filter” to help my search.

filters can definitely help a search, and i can see how it would be popular to search for “boy” and “girl” stuff for some people. it isn’t a filter if you’re forced to do it to enter their site, and i am not comfortable giving them my money now.  this sucks, because this particular company is pretty much everywhere in the baby shopping circuit.

pro-tip:  if you’re holiday shopping at major corporations this year, i highly recommend the HRC buyer’s guide as a resource for how lgbt-friendly a company is.  you can search at the site, or text “shop -business or product name” to 30644.  unfortunately, they did not have a score for either carter’s or their sister company, oshkosh b’gosh, but i’ve been pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised at how some of my regular shopping locations have scored in how they treat their lgbt employees and the community at large and it’s an easy thing to look up if you’re concerned about where your money goes.

also sorry this took so long to post today.  i planned on having it done last night, but we needed to drive for nearly four hours to get cornelius antibiotics.  you know what… don’t ask.  if anyone thinks that having dogs doesn’t compare to having children, you haven’t met our dogs.

042 - CONGRATULATIONS? part 1

this has been, by far, the most baffling response [that is not completely uncommon, even more bafflingly] that we have received.  it’s usually by people who had no idea we were trying to get pregnant, and it seems to just be a natural thought process that our excitement belies this gigantic story of infidelity and surprise!heterosexuality.

i get it, it’s a little bit of a shock because we aren’t able to make a baby with just the two of us, but it’s fascinating that this is the path that their mind tends to take.  

obviously, my main priority is to be a good parent [and for now, a nurturing vessel for our future child], but sweet p and i both have a background in psychology/sociology.  this experience is just the most delicious, juciest exercise in social observation and the psychology of blowing people’s minds about tradition.  even though it sometimes shows how far society has to go before i can stop parroting basic facts about my life, i am so happy it’s happening to us.

in celebration of his recent birthday, i’d like to introduce you to our fantastic donor.  he is aware of his presence in the comic and keeps up with reading when he has time, and has commented on a few pages under his superhero moniker.  

he doesn’t have a tumblr but has said he is available as a resource for anyone who has questions about what this experience has been like for him, so feel free to address him in a comment or send me a message and i will be sure he gets it.

 i’m not sure how prevalent he will be in the comic [i guess that depends on how many times we will need him for donor duties], but i wanted to extend a small token of thanks for everything he has already done for us.

it really was the best trip ever, and i’ve been keeping up with the activity on this site and am really pleased to see a bunch of pages being liked and reblogged!  thank you for everyone that has followed this comic in the past two weeks, you guys are amazing.

the relaxation is over and now it’s time to get serious, though.  i’m recovering from a caffeine-withdrawal headache after two weeks of popping caffeine pills like my admission to stanford depends on it [saved by the bell is on netflix now, did you know that?], so i apologize if this page looks a little sloppy.  i should be okay by the next one.

[fyi - i really did doublebook our obgyn and the lawyer this week.]
